Went out for an easy jog today after the snow storm, but as I live in hills, no such thing is possible. The roads were clear and the bright Sunny day made me feel warm as opposed to the actual 35 degrees.
As I ran - I was thinking -
I started up as a fat, drunk back nearly 10 months ago in April. (still a drunk, just less fat)
My goal was to give an "honest" effort in a foot race this Spring. I knew going in it would be very hard. That requires training, not just showing up on race day with attitude..
I have endured the many pains and set backs one might expect an approaching septuagenarian would encounter. (more pains are surely in my future)
To be honest, no matter the age, pain and injury are the marks of a foot racer.
This month I am finally beginning to feel like a "real" runner. It might sound funny, but I am beginning to perceive a slight "spring" in my step. I am beginning to feel like one of the guys. I have "earned" that. I really have!
My mileage aint much and my pace is slow, but my personal effort is high.
I understand part of it is just the cool temperature as opposed to the Summer heat I started out in.
Some of it is not that.
My cardio has improved some.
This month I am working on building some leg strength. In time maybe I will not have to walk up "all" the hills.
I am improved. My mind is still excited. Last night I was lying in bed and doing calculations as to what I would need to do to set a state record in the 5K. That is not a realistic goal, but "aim high", it is free.
To quote Mick, "You don't always get what you want, but if you try -> sometimes you get what you need."
If I can improve, so can you. Look back to where I started just walking back and forth to my mail box.
Most anyone can do this.
Sounds like you are really improving. Let us know when and where
your first race is going to be. Who knows we
just might show up to cheer you on.

That would be great. Tried to find you on the web, is that you on Water Oak? Email me at [email protected]
You stopped posting on my forum and missed a good football contest won by -->me.
I hope to be able/ready to do a race in May. I hope to be at a race in Belmont for June. You are close to there?
