RAINBOW RACE
Jeep took me to Anderson today which is the closest city to me.
134 highly trained foot racers turned out.
Anytime I go some place and meet a great Dog, it is a fun day.
Here my ass is with some ladies showing off my new RoadKill shirt:
These shirts are can be bought for $10 by RoadKill members, and I know for a fact the Gnomes loose $$ on each sale.
Join Roadkill and talk with friends.
The course was rolling. The weather was cloudy, and about 55. They did a good job except for no porta pottys. I can't recall one time in hundreds of races where there was not at least a bunch of bushes to tinkle at. Maybe next year this will be addressed? The age groups were different from the norm. Instead of me being 70+, I was with the kids 66-70. I am just happy they had a group for guys my age. I hope to return next year.
My spirits are up, my health has improved, but not so much my times. I am still 30 pounds too heavy to be a real footracer, but I don't seem to care enough about it to loose a pound.
It was festive event for Saint Patrick. I got a couple green donuts. I like that!
Lots of COPS were there keeping us safe. The street was closed down. I talked to some. It was good to have them behind me as I passed through their area. These guys are special!
Two famous runners were there - Judy Walls and Michael Kasha. I edged out Michael, but Judy beat me for the third straight time. These are runners who know how to close the deal. I hate to say this, but foot racing now is now is not like when I was a younger man 20 years back. Races used to be about pain and gain. For a special few they still are.
All my friend Judy did was -- WIN and come 1St !!!
One don't often get to hang with a guy like this:
I really thought my time today would be improved, but nope. What I want is not a better time but to feel like I am "racin'". I felt like I wanted to die during the race, or at least walk off the course and hide my face (but I did not do either). I need to toughen up my mind. I have become a whimp.
At the end of the day, after a second bottle of good beer here on the porch, I know I am truly blessed. Few people had this experience today. Judy and I were remembering some of the best racers of the past, and too many are not with us now. Her Mom was the best ever in the USA.
I finished 8th of 134 so I am not yet "holding up the parade". My pace was 7:48. I want to do better, but maybe not enough to train and give up beer and cookies.
One might believe my problem is too many years, but it is actullay too many beers. I like that!
