From what I read,
the drought has left. I suppose it is
true, but my yard has experienced no rain since about a month when 6 inches
fell in a day. Still, with a little
selective watering the place is looking great.
Today it is cloudy with a very few raindrops falling , and the temp is
hanging in the low 70’s. The cooler temp
gave me an opportunity to get in a lot of pruning without all the sweat. I used to spend all my time planting and growing. Now, my days are filled with cutting things
back and dead heading flowers. I have
about 30 roses that put out a million flowers.
This year I have just given up on those with the pruner and am going the
electric shear route. I don’t like it,
but until you start showing up to help out, it might get me by.
Cloudy days are
always better for backyard bird watching, but in Summer, few bother with my
feeders. It is impossible for me to
compete with the bugs, berries, and seeds Nature is putting out. That is good for my pocketbook as Winter will
roll in soon enough.
Today I have the
usual thieves. The Finches, Nut Hatches,
Woodpeckers, and etc. are all here. The
new family of Wrens is especially active back here today, and I have a nice fat
female Towhee jumping around on the ground.
I guess if I got
off my lazy butt and went out into the woods, I might find almost anything
today, but Rosie is sleeping on my lap and I should not disturb her.
